research, product and material research
Chicken feathers have many natural properties. They help, protect, camouflage and insulate chickens, while keeping them dry, buoyant and giving them the ability to fly.
In the industry today, tonnes of feathers are disposed of, ground up and used as a powder for the feed industry, destroying nearly all the qualities that nature provided.
I want to make use of these properties and take advantage of one of the biggest by-products in the poultry industry.
Concentrating on the insulating, waterproof, aesthetic and lightweight qualities of the feather, I introduce it into everyday life through the medium of architecture. Finding a sustainable, lightweight, efficiant alternative construction material that combines and embraces the basic necessities for comfort.
